melamine - google may have a hard time with the other spelling Clay used.... a hard plastic laminate over an MDF core, commonly available at the large box retailers. See if you can find a piece with a chip or two on it, and then negotiate with the product manager for a lower price - this works well!

It's particle board, or MDF covered by a white plastic substance. It's pretty slick, and works well as an outfeed table. You can find it at the BORG.
