I don't like changing my table saw blade. My contractor saw does not have an arbor lock. Using the standard method of jambing a piece of wood against the teeth is just plain scary. One slip of the hand or wrench and BANG! busted/cut knuckles. I know that Bench Dog makes a couple of products that make the process of blade changes easier.

However, I'm cheap! Plus I like to make stuff for the shop when I can. So this is what I came up with the following. I'm gonna call it the Blade Locker since I can't think of anything better.

You probably are wondering what purpose the dowels serve in the above photo (if not, you should be! ). They are not for joinery. The dowels serve as reference points for the tablesaw blade to lock against when you are changing the tablesaw blade. They are glued in place in the blade cover after you cut a semi-circular kerf in the interior of the blade cover. Here is an image of a 3D rendering made in Google Sketchup:

Hopefully, the image illustrates the location of the semi-circular kerf in the interior of the blade cover.

I have placed detailed construction plans in the Shop Jigs and Fixtures section of the Download Library:

http://www.ncwoodworker.net/forums/d...hp?do=cat&id=4

The construction plans, as well as my Sketchup file can be found there. I hope you (and your knuckles ) will find them useful.

I plan to submit a brief version of the description/plans to the tips section of a woodworking magazine so I would appreciate any feedback you might have. If you have seen anything similar somewhere else please let me know; I have not found anything similar in any of my internet searches.

Thanx for looking,
Jay

Neat idea, jay. Hope a mag donates a few bucks to your tool fund.

Great idea Jay! I certainly think it's worthy of publication (and a monetary reward)
