Sharpening Planer or Jointer Blades

Take a 2x6 8" long and make three cuts across the board at 45 deg. 1" apart (depth = hight of blade) on your table saw, put your blades in the cuts upside down and sand with 120 grit paper. For 12" blades use 12" wide board. Note; angle depends on your blade angle.

Re: Sharpening Planer or Jointer Blades

Great tip Joe So you would want the depth of the blade kerf to be just a hair shallower than the blade depth? Do you find that 120 grit is a little too coarse? Hopefully you are only putting a honin' on the blades, if not 120 would be a great place to start.

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

Re: Sharpening Planer or Jointer Blades

Dave,
Yes, you sand the board down to the blades with the smallest grit sand paper then I finish it off with a dimond file. Then I shave to see if it's sharpenought to use, just joking.Joe

Pete,
Try a board 24" long. I'm still joking.
