I didn't want to spend $20 for a glass disc or $30 for a leather one so I made my own from 1/2 in. MDF.

Just cut a 6 in. circle with a 1/2 in. hole and you're ready to hone,

Works Great

How about some anecdotal observations; now or as you get more time with it. My first impression is it's a very good idea. A lot of us have that unit and would be interested, I'm sure.

Nicely done Pete! I have one that I've mounted on my lathe. I have a piece of leather I picked up from Tandy that I will glue to the MDF.

Good idea and good money saver. One of the biggest reasons I haven't gotten that sharpener yet is the outrageous price of the accessories (for what they are) -- reminds me of the painfully priced Tormek accessories (though not as bad).

This little tip/technique will save many some mula ($).

I was wondering what a glass place might charge to make some glass disks? - gotta be less than $20!!

You know, that is a really great idea. I've been thinking about getting more glass discs, but the price is just too high. MDF is an excellent material, thanks for the tip!

Of course, a day late...would have been handy for the WorkSharp demo tomorrow at Klingspor. Oh well.

I don't think so. You have to wet bore the hole in middle, and then size disk. Then make it a perfect circle. Too many chances for error.

Actually, you just need a hole in the middle- who cares if the thing is perfectly round, as long as it fits, and isn't too out of round or balance that it shakes the machine or prematurely wears out the shaft bearings.

I would think a wet diamond drill could handle the hole in a snap.
