Would it be possible to add the sketchup file extension as a supported type for uploads similar to zip, doc, and pdf file types?

Re: Sketchup file extension

I think that it's a fantastic idea. We had talked at one time about setting up a "library" of sketchup files. There wasn't an overwhelming movement to do so, but I believe that it would have it's merits.

Re: Sketchup file extension

That would be a great idea. It would be kewl to be able to see what others have done with Sketchup.

Re: Sketchup file extension

Travis have you tried uploading? I don't see any restriction on the file type.

Re: Sketchup file extension

I agree that it would be very useful, but I suspect that any issue will be with viewing the file after upload. But then one can't view a PDF file either. I've exported to *.jpg file and uploaded in the past, but then others cannot bring the file back into Sketchup for their use.

When you start a thread or go advanced in replying to a thread, click the paper clip, get to manage attachments, it is not one of the attachment types included, so you can't do it.

Rob - Not sure why you say you can't view a PDF. Just download it and open in Acrobat reader. Same with SketchUp files - download and open in SketchUp.

I think the ability to upload Sketchup would be a very good addition.

Pete, what I meant by my comment is you cannot open a post on the site containing a Sketchup file and see a visual image on the screen like we can with *.jpg or *.gif files. Clearly, *.pdf's are very potent image and text files and we have good tools to download and view them. What we need is a good Sketchup viewer built in to the vBulletin software. I strongly support the idea of sharing Sketchup files. Hope this clarifies it.

Re: Sketchup file extension

sketchup has a viewer like adobe and autocad do, i think it automatically registers the file type too when you install it. might have to open something with it once the first time for it to "remember" what app it needs to open a specific file type with
