I made the trip to wall lumber today, been putting it of long enough
3 hours drive from here but IMO it was well worth it, the people there are great
anyone who has not been there should try and go
Theres just one trouble, I came back with the truck loded, spent toooooooooo much
Walnut, Cherry, Maple, Cedar and I even got a little Ambrosia Maple
Now if I could just find a way to get to Ironstation

John,

I agree. Other than making something out of the wood you buy from them, going there and shopping is as good a way as any to spend your vac / pers time.

Plan on spending some extra time there. Yes you can do well in the "bundles" department, but Wall has more sizes and types and varieties than you'll ever figure what to do with... everything from your standard furniture hardwoods to some beautiful exotics. GREAT place to shop.

Well i went up there today.
Don't take buisness 220 by mistake. stay on 220 it will save you about 10 mins.

They where pretty nice people lots and lots of wood.

bought 2 bundles of red oak and 10 bdft of poplar. should of bought the walnut instead of the poplar.

I will post some pics tomorrow if i remember.

Re: wall lumber

Here some pictures of the RED OAK SHORTS.

2 bundles of red oak shorts. a few of the boards had some bad checks in them, but i can work around them.
Sizes range from 5"-10" and uptoo 33" long i think.
also picked up 10 bdft of the 1C poplar. and had it s2s. If i would of thought more about it i should of just got a bundle of walnut shorts instead of the poplar.

Re: wall lumber

John,

Sounds as if you have a good business going there. I suppose there is a large enough market, with collectors, dealerships, ranges, PDs, etc. The racks in the photos look nice.

Re: wall lumber

I have never been to Wall Lumber but I wonder with gas @ $3/gal is it worth it to drive past Gibsonville to go there? I have been satisfied with the Hardwood store. Just wondering what is the difference that makes Wall so much better?

Re: wall lumber

John,

You've got quite a production going there. I assume that your clients get some choice as to wood type and finish. What about size / number of slots, etc? Throw in long gun racks and you'll have to hire some help. They really look nice.

Re: wall lumber

Right know i just use red oak, with lacquer and i gotten a couple that wanted a dark stain. But next batch of wood i get i going to pick up some walnut.

I will do as many slots as they want. but 6 and 8 slots seem ideal with gun safes. There is also a tall and short version of these.

Rifle racks are down the road but i do have a design that i did for a custom order.

Re: wall lumber

Ditto on the prices. I paid $105 a sheet for 5 sheets of hardwood plywood and could have gotten them for $79 at Wall......
