See the link below for a sneak preview of a new accessory Powermatic is going to release for the PM2000 table saw. This is VERY cool!

Yeah, that is way cool! Just saw an ad for it yesterday in the latest "Wood" magazine. Truly a unique add on.

Re: Powermatic PM2000 "Workbench" Extension Table

Looks nice, but I'm having a hard time understanding the practical use of it. Seems to me that a workbench needs to be sturdy and strong -- and putting one on the end of a tablesaw may not cut it

Can't wait to see one in person to see how it really holds up.

At this point, looks like another money-suckin' gimmick (plenty of those out there -- ask me how I know!)

Re: Powermatic PM2000 "Workbench" Extension Table

As I said in the story, I wouldn't do any heavy-duty hammering on it but for clamping stuff up, fitting and just about anything else, it is plenty strong. The bench is mounted directly to the fence rails which on a PM2000 will support small trucks easily.

Re: Powermatic PM2000 "Workbench" Extension Table

I know the PM is a sturdy machine... I was wondering about anything from banging things together, to plane work (racking and rocking the bench), would you be knocking things out of alignment?

Ray,
The bench has its own legs and feet and with the saw lowered onto the floor, you won't be rocking or moving anything.
I don't think was ever meant to replace a workshop bench, especially for the heavy-duty stuff, but it sure makes a nice addition for just about everything else. I never seem to have enough open bench space for things and this helps a ton to keep things moving in the shop.

That is a really cool idea - glad to see one power tool company getting it. Remember this thread

Tom,

I would agree... there's never enough space... at least not in my shop. If that addition is sturdy (It's from PM, so I'm sure it is), then it would be a terrific addition to the shop... now, if they would just make one for a DeWalt cabinet saw...

Re: Powermatic PM2000 "Workbench" Extension Table

I think besides it's function, I also love the way it looks. We have all know of stories of warped and bowed extention tables. This should fix that problem. I think that if I ever get my shop really done I would build a replacement for my table something like this one. Cool idea!
