I've been working in Columbia, SC for the past few weeks & today I had a needed to get some special sanding pads for a PC drywall sander/vac I'm using. The only source locally was Mann Tools in West Columbia. I had located them in the yellow pages a few days ago, so I headed on over.
They had someone mopping the floor when I got there - and for good reason. He shoulda waited until I left. They are dealers for Powermatic, Jet, PC, Kreg, Festool, Milwaukee, Rockler - you name it. And they had a large selection of exotic hardwoods to choose from, including some 6/4 x 30" slabs of some of the prettiest wood I have ever seen.
A large selection of dust collectors, table saws, jointers, planers, band saws, drill presses, and not to mention power and hand tools were on the floor for drooling over. Guys, if you're ever in that area and have the time(allow at least 1 hour in the store), stop in.
I picked up several pieces of exotics for pen blanks as well as a closeout sale on Rockler T-slots tracks. 4 - 24" pieces for $5.49 each. Here's their website:
www.manntools.com
And here's a related website that may need to go in the library. It's a nonprofit site that has true color pics of exotic woods for identification.

BTW, I'm still stickin' to my philosophy 'bout buyin' used, but if the boat ever lands.............

Re: Mann tools

I've used the hobbit site for a good while. I thought I'd found it through here, but maybe not. It is a pretty good source I think.
Didn't get any drool on yourself did ya?? I'm sure they redo the floors on a regular basis - insurance and liability ya know

Re: Mann tools

I have purchased tools and supplies from Mann Tool for the past 10 years and highly recommend them. Not always the lowest price available, but good service and the staff normally know what they are talking about. They have a weekend sale about 2-4 times a year which is a good time to shop. I have been told that their service department is excellent, however I have never personally used it.

Another place in Columbia that recently opened and shows promise is WoodZone. http://www.woodzone.com/ Have only been there once, but intend to go back.

Re: Mann tools

Looking at MapQuest it seems Wood Zone and Mann Tool are less than a block apart. How 'bout that? A twofer!

Re: Mann tools

I have them both in my GPS and they are about 1 mile apart, but only takes a couple of minutes.
