Just got back from a Dino's at Myrtle Beach. We had a great visit and I was lucky enough to get a shop tour of one of the best equiped shop I have been in for a while - I think I need a second job. I was also able to see some of his latest work, a beautiful bath vanity and mirror.

As proof of how great this site is, Dino was willing to sell his one of his slightly used tools at a great price to another North Carolina Woodworker member. So I am the proud owner of a Hegner 18V scroll saw. I have never done any scroll work, I doubt it will hurt to learn on the best.

Excellent! Great choice going for a good saw right off the bat.

Re: Quick trip, new tool

Fantastic score
^5 to you and Dino!
I'm curious what saw Dino kept if that is a cast-off

I wish Scott were closer, I'd make arrangements for some tip time from him.
This site is certainly blessed with people that are very good at their chosen disciplines.
Doubly blessed in that so many are more than willing to help each other out.

Re: Quick trip, new tool

Super score!!! Dino - did you keep a saw?

Andy, I'd offer tips, and I'm closer (well, some of the time) but I'm feeling kind of "tip-less". Still, if I can help I should be around on weekends.

Actually it is Phil, not me, with the latest new toy. I certainly don't turn down tips though. I just recently got a good saw myself after a long period without one and it surprises me how rusty I am. I just cut simple crescent sound holes for a rebec the other night and they don't match . Close enough that a lot of people won't notice, but...

Re: Quick trip, new tool

Thanks for all the encouragement and offers of help. I am sure I will need some. The saw came with a basic instruction book and I am doing some of the exercises, but soon I am going to jump in the deep end. I have always been interested in the wooden clocks so I am going to make one - just do not know which one yet. Some seem rather simplistic while others are overly complicated, I am probably going to try one of the harder ones. If any of you have any knowledge on these clocks please forward. thanks

Re: Quick trip, new tool

Serious fretwork! Look into a dedicated tool for blade holes for that kind of project.
