Got this one on eBay last week. Been looking for a Trump Bros. saw for a while but they always seem to go for an arm and a leg. Must have scared the bidders off on this one or the $$ is tight. Paid less than $290 for it. Circa 1877..oldest scroll saw I have now but oldest tool I have is an original Stanley 1876 Liberty Plane. They made them to celebrate the 1776 Independence.

Came with a copy of the US Patent Office paperwork from the Trump Bros & Christian Frederick of Wilmington Delaware. Also had a section from a book titled: "American Foot Powered and Hand Powered Machinery." I'll be looking to get a copy of that next.

On left is New Rogers treadle saw and right is a Millers falls #387. The New Rogers was actually given to school students at one time with a talent in wood working for graduation. The MF387 was a heavier duty saw with more weight and a bellows style blower that 'removed' dust from the cuttings.

Nice score Pop. I assume they are all in working order or can be with just a little care.

All fully functional. I even found a shoe maker who orders the round leather drive belts for me by the foot. The original 3 (only 2 shown) needed the nickeling redone onthe blade holders and some of the screw/bolt heads...so I learned how to do that, ordered a bunch of chemicals and made my own re-nickeling setup for that too. It really neat to see how things were done in those eras but still came out as beautiful (and in some cases even more) than todays work.

Nice looking scroll saw and in great shape too. Good score! You need to meet Ed Hobbs, He is one of our treadle power guru's in Midwest Tool Collectors Association. Ed has a super treadle-power collection and is a wealth of knowledge about treadle power equipment. Ed would enjoy talking with you about treadle equipment. hobbsed@portbridge.com

Re: New saw for Pops' collection.

You ROCK! The new saw looks to be in excellent condition, and the other two ain't too shabby, either.

Tarhead told me all about Ed when I was first honored by joining the group as an 'outsider'. He and I exchanged some info in the beginning. I've been remiss and not been on line for a good bit lately because of some more back and neck issues but I'm glad you noted his site. I'm gonna make a much needed visit today.

e-mailed Ed right after your response. He's up to over 50 "and still coming" according to the e-mail he sent me back. I told him he'll soon need a bigger house or maybe I should have suggested a barn somewhere. I sent him this link to a fellow that has quite a collection himself.
