I was in the shop the other day and tripped over a pine board that I had not placed back where it should have been. After recovering from my fall, I heard a voice saying " Help, let me out of here, Somebody get me out of here". I realized it was coming from the board I had tripped over. I picked it up and listened and figured out what area it was coming form and cut off a section. I took it into the house and started chipping away pieces of the wood and it became clear who was making those sounds. It was my new found friend, Mr. Jerry Baldi. He's a comical old man with a lot of funny, tall tales to tell. Hope you enjoy meeting him as much as I did.

Re: New Found Friend

Chuck I love your work. How much wood would Chuck carve, if he kept tripping over the wood and listening to what the wood would say to him

Re: New Found Friend

Never had wood talk to me before - I just usually see faces and figures. Guess that's why I can't do as good work as you

Re: New Found Friend

Thanks All for the kind words. I usually carve with basswood but this time I tried a piece of pine that I had. Not sure what kind but it was easy to carve. I have a lot more of it so I guess I'll be listening for some more "voices". My wife says she just hopes I don't start talking back to them. LOL. Thanks again, Chuck

Re: New Found Friend

Rob, that's the way I did it when I started last September. I searched the web for anything and everything relating to wood carving. There is a lot of free info out there; magazine forums, Youtube videos, etc. Go for it!
