* I made this for the wicked witch of the south, a neighbor of ours. I got tired of picking up my walnut boards up from the back of her house... She would help herself to some sticks to stir up what ever crazy brew she had cooking up in that cauldron of hers - just kidding

* Actually I have some unruly teenagers - just kidding again

* One of my son's calls me up today and says pops I want to you make me a mash paddle - apparently it's for stirring up mash but I wouldn't know anything about that . So I grabbed a peice of QS Sycamore because it's a "food" safe wood and hacked out a rough shape. At least I'll be able to sit on the front porch and finish it up with a pocket knife and some sand paper. 7/8" thick 5" wide 36" long.

Thanks

Re: Mash Paddle

Well, that certainly brings back many fond memories! I never used a mash paddle though. Those look very similar to some paddles that a number of teachers in the junior high school I went to (early 60's) used to brandish. Apparently, the holes decreased the wind resistance and allowed a higher paddle speed. Ah, the good old days!

I wonder if one could claim that the beer is "sycamore aged" if these paddles are used?

Matt

Yeah I recall a teacher or two using a similar paddle but they weren't for mashing...

Actually it's an experimental batch. there's a lb of clover honey in the primary with the brown ale once it's done it'll be primed with a little bit of pecan syrup, then into bottles to age. So I guess we could claim Sycamore Aged Honey Brown Pecan Ale, anyways, it's making me thirsty.

Thanks
