Re: CarveRight Demos at Lowes

Any of our members actually have one of these? I've seen them go as refurbs and was initially intereted until I read some reviews that said the machine is prone to breakdowns and problems, just like it's cousin at Sears the Compucarve.

I have the Craftsman branded one. It's the same as the Carvewright except for the label.
If kept clean and lubricated it works fine. It looks like a lunchbox planer and is advertised as 'buy one and start producing perfect carvings', but it has a learning curve and needs attention. For a woodworking shop it's more complicated than a motor turning a blade or bit.
There is an excellent Carvewright forum with numerous owners providing free support. The little machine can turn out some impressive work, I'm amazed at what some of the forum members do.

Re: CarveRight Demos at Lowes

Ken, would you buy it again? Does it do what you expect of it?

I have thought about it time and again, but I have been a bit skittish of it. Didn't you post some neat signs you did a while back?

Yes I would Travis. It does more than I expected. You can lurk at the Carvewright Forum and read about owners experiences and in the gallery section see some of the carvings that the CW can do.
Here are a couple of pics of signs and carvings.
