Turning pens again...

I got a chance to turn some pens today. It has been almost 2 years since I turned my last one (also first). I had forgotten how precise you have to be with these darn things. I went through 3 kits today, and ended up with 2 pens, only one of which I like. It is all good though. I am starting on the christmas projects now, so I don't have to rush later this year, and these will be some of the gifts that I give. (hopefully, they will get better, as these first ones aren't really all that good.)

Here is a picture of the not so abismal attempt at a pen.

Re: Turning pens again...

Nice looking pen , David. I would be happy to receive such a gift. I am about to try turning my first. I would be thrilled to make one so nice after only a few tries. Keep ta it.

Re: Turning pens again...

David that's not a design I have seen on a Euro kit. But I like the taper down to the finial, it's very unique.
Your fit looks great. What are you using for a finish?

Dave

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

Re: Turning pens again...

I finished it with the same oil and wax finish I use on my crochet hooks. It is fast and easy.

The taper at the end, is because I got a little tear out, and needed to correct it. I think it worked out.
