I've been giving my lathe more of a workout lately. Turned a number of pens, then at the last trip to Woodcraft, my son picked us up an Ash blank to turn him a wooden bat. I used measurements from his Easton but I don't quite think this one will turn out to be a minus 3.

Cody made the initial cuts gurning down to round then he moved on and I did the final turning.

Signed up for a turning class thru ACC that started last week. I've been wanting to learn more about bowl turning as I always have issues with my gouges grabbing when turning bowls. Broke down and ordered a 4pc gouge/scraper kit from PSI. Here is my first attempt with my new toys. Started this turning in class last night and finished up today.

Still haven't mastered the gouge, always get in trouble around the rim but don't think it turned out tooooo bad.

Thanks for Looking,

Duane

Looking good Duane - Tell your son great job on the bat - I am sure he will be hitting some sweet home runs with that one

Re: Recent Turnings

Good looking bowl Duane. Pay attention to Bill Wallace at ACC and you can learn a lot. I've taken three of his classes; two at the NCSU craft center and one at Duke when he taught at those two places. He and his brother Jim are both very good teachers.
