A friend of mine is turning 60 today and I made this pen for her. It is ambrosia maple with a purpleheart CB.

Also had a piece of sapele I decided to take another stab at a bowl. I dyed the rim with a black sharpie and wiped it back with DNA.

Didn't want you guys to think I forgot how to make things spin!

Re: Recent turnings

Ed, I really like your bowl designs. They are very artistic, not just "soup holders"

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

Re: Recent turnings

Thanks guys!

Bowls are fun, but I really need to get the right tools!

Dave, no soup bowls, but when this one was finished it looks a lot like an offering plate. I'll have to bring it along for the next get together so I can pass it around! Maybe I'd get enough for a real bowl gouge!

Good looking projects!! You would be tough with the right gouge in hand.

Re: Recent turnings

Great job on both pieces.
I have been using sharpies to dye my corn cobs since I started making them 3 years ago.
I don't know if it is the angle the piecture is taken at but the lower section of the pen seems a little large. This would be a good thing if your friend suffers from arthritis.
The execution of the CB on the pen is excellent!
Looks like a nice finish also.

Re: Recent turnings

The bowl is really very nice work. The turning is good, but I like the form most.
