Walt.

Packard Woodworks is located in Tryon NC. I think it may be about an hour from you though.

Packard Woodworks Inc.
215 S Trade St
Tryon, NC 28782

I have ordered pen kits and pen blanks from them in the past and their mail order business is excellent! Not sure if they do walk-ins or not. May be just online stuff, but they are quick with their deliveries.

I have noticed too, that they seem to be a PSI reseller. Same kits.

You may want to try and give them a call.

Re: pen kits

We have them at Klingspor's Woodworking Shop in Hickory, NC. One day shipping! Or couple of hours drive - your choice.

Re: pen kits

you can practice with just wood. no tubes, no mandrel, just small wood between centers. turn and finish as you would a pen. this will help you learn how to get the finish you are looking for.

about 45 miles from you

is the Woodcraft in Greenville, SC. or 55 miles to Asheville Hardware, which sells Rockler items.

Re: pen kits

The Woodcraft in Johnson City isn't too far and offers a nice drive. It breaks up the routine of riding to Greenville and is about as far for me as Klingspor in Hickory. There is the Asheville hardware. I've been a few times but their pen stuff has never had much selection. Its been hit or miss as has customer service. They have offered to order something if I knew what I wanted, but I can order too so I've never used them for that. Out of the three times I went there I left with a purchase just once, and it wasn't really what I wanted.
I like to actually see what I am going to buy and see the options side by side. Once I find what I like I don't mind ordering.
