Re: Looking for a small face plate

Try Don Pencil. I have some of his and I like them. Or Craft Supplies also sells his face plates.

He also has some seconds/blems that are cheaper.

I think Bobcat Bob is selling one, check out the classified ad, I think it's still there.

Re: Looking for a small face plate

There was a recent thread about this, I will give you the short version of an excerpt...

You can get 1" 8TPI nuts at the big box for not much and then cut a couple of circles of 1/2" plywood. trace the nut on the center of one and cut a reasonable outline with scroll saw or jig saw. glue and screw the two circles together (screws optional if you are worried about delam, but if so I am worried about why you would use a small faceplate if there is that much deflection force). Epoxy the nut into its cavity; let it cure completely. Spin it up and true the sides and face.

You can make several for about $2 each (well, maybe; I have not priced the nuts recently).

EDIT - Note this is specifically for small faceplates and assumes small blanks.
Additional disclaimer - This has worked for me in the past and I hope it works for you. No other warranty is expressed or implied.

Re: Looking for a small face plate

If you care to purchase a faceplate, I've found the aluminum ones offered through Woodworkers Supply to be a good value.

Mark, you're welcome to borrow my 1x8 Beall spindle tap so you can make several faceplates.

Ditto, I've used them and they work well, not very expensive either
