Draw for a free lathe

I've got a lathe that I'd like to give away. It's a Harbor Freight/Central Machinery 14X40 lathe, model S36066. It's got a 7 inch sander disk. I think I paid $139 for it a few years ago. It's discontinued now, and it's not the one people talk about alot. However, the price is right!!!

I've turned quite a few pens on it, but I've got a Jet mini now. For awhile I thought I'd just take the sander out of it and place it in some sort of table, but I can see now that ain't going to happen.

So I've cleaned it up and decided to let it find a new home. Post your interest here and I'll put your name in a hat for a draw. I'm back at work now for a couple of days starting tomorrow, and I'll draw this Friday after I get up, say 3 PM.

Only thing in the drawing is the lathe. Not the table it's on in the pic, not the vise, not the hacksaw and CERTAINLY not the hose "Y."

So discuss amongst yourselves and post away!!

Tom Swortzel

Re: Draw for a free lathe

Tom, way to "pay it forward" . That is a very serviceable lathe and would serve someone, wanting to give the Dark Side a taste, very well.
Come on folks you can't get a better deal than this . I'll even throw a pen turn demo on top of the deal for anyone willing to drop by my shop.

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

Tom,

How often have you heard the phrase that, "one good turn deserves another"?

Good form, brother, good form.

Re: Draw for a free lathe

Throw my name in there, I've been lookin' at lathes ya' know. I would even pay it forward after I give it a try and decide whether to turn and get an upgrade or not to turn.

Free lathe say you - hummm... much you have learned. Attachment leads to jealously, the shadow of greed, that is. Know soon you will - freely give you, yet returned to you, much more will there be.

Re: Draw for a free lathe

I've been thinking about it for sometime now and discussing it with others ( you know who you are ) , so what the heck, throw my name in and I'll let the stars decide if it is time yet . I also will pass it along if it "turns" out not to be my cup of tea

Put a LeftyTom in the hat.

(The trick is, the winner will be whoever puts their name in before me, or after me. I've seen that happen on 2 occasions at the same small event.)

Re: Draw for a free lathe

Boy, I thought about this one for a while. I have not done one thing on a lathe ever in my life and it's about the only thing I haven't tried. It sounds like a great way to try it out and if I don't like it, I'll pass it on the same way I found it.
Put me in for a try and thanks very much for the offer.

Re: Draw for a free lathe

I'm interested, or more accurately, interested for my son.

Please consider me, or myself and my older son who's started expressing
an interest in learning to turn.

I will second Dave's offer to give a turning lesson in my shop if the winner is in the Winston-Salem area.
Great offer Tom
