Another Homemade Turning Tool- Not a Oland

Well thought I'd take a crack at a turning tool that is not a Oland style tool.

Tech Info:
Shaft - .625 (5/8") 12L14 Steel 14 inchs Long
Tool Holder: 3/4" 12L14 Steel
Bit Size - 3/16"
Screw - 12-24NC - 3/4" Long

This one took a little longer to make but had the whole day Sat ( blased cable is out). Really not to difficult to do with the right tools but to cut the groove for the tool bit and the shaft to hold the swivel holder took a while 5 thousands at a time.

Sorry for the lousy photo, will try to get a better one if anyone wants me to.

James

Wow! - 56 looks but not a comment, you all must be getting sick of these homemade tool posts or were very unimpressed with my latest.

I don't think anyones getting sick of seeing them. I know I'm not.

What specific niche does it fill?

Very nice looking! How does it cut? Do you have a mill at home?

Re: Another Homemade Turning Tool- Not a Oland

Uses: By turning the cutter, this tool then enables the turner to under-cut under rims of bowls.

Yes, I have a small bench top min mill.

As a turner, I'll say it for the rest of us.

Wow, I wish I could do that!

Nice job on the tool. I have often wished for a small milling machine for my shop but have yet to scrap together the $$$.

Re: Another Homemade Turning Tool- Not a Oland

James, I like your new tool. Is the round thing the cutter is in a separate piece or just part of the tool shaft? Could/would you post a photo of the parts off the shaft?

I have made a Oland style tool and this would make a nice addition to my set.

Thanks for the breakdown photo James. Now I've got to find some steel.

Re: Another Homemade Turning Tool- Not a Oland

James, you could darn near use that thing for a boring bar on a small metal lathe! Good work!
