I turned this tonight, it is a Spalted Maple Blank. It's about 5" round and about 4" high.

I am still struggling a little bit with the photos but I'll get it there...

Re: Another GWL Bowl

Thanks Phillip I have become fond of the Bowl Turning. I want to try some segmented bowls and a few other things... I need to do some research on the segmented ones before I try it. Plus my table saw is broken so I don't know that I will be doing much yet.

Maybe there is an outside chance a new saw will be coming down the chimney in Dec.

Very, very nice!

There are few things to compare with a good piece of spalted wood.

Re: Another GWL Bowl

Kevin,
Don't order any more maple. I just helped a buddy start cutting down a maple tree. We can get you all the blanks you want. And on the tablesaw, come by one evening. I'd love to "help" and see what we could come up with. I've got some maple, oak, and black walnut scraps that need to be used for something!

Re: Another GWL Bowl

That's beautiful.....

Sheesh you guys are making this hard on me. I figured the lathe sitting in the corner would be pretty low on my list of things to focus on given the amount of work I have to do in the shop right now. I'm really starting hear the siren's song.......

Re: Another GWL Bowl

Phillip... I will hold off on the maple order. Thanks... I like turning green wood. I have done a couple small oak bowls and am waiting on them to dry so I can finish them. I'll have to take you up on your saw usage at some point here soon. I have gotten hooked on this stuff. Last night I started turning control knobs for a guitar I am building I haven't even got the body sanded and finished but I know how to do the control knobs now. I will PM you in the next few days and we can figure out a good weekend.
