One of the guys from Church saw a pen I did for my brother a couple of weeks ago and really liked it he asked if I sold them and obviously I said yes, so here is what I came up with him after talking with him and figuring out what he wanted. It is a Jr. Statesman in 22K Gold with a Blue Lapis Tru-Stone blank. This was the first time I had turned one of these blanks and it was a little different a little harder and a bear to get shiny like I wanted. I take it to him tomorrow at church to present it to him, hopefully he will like it and if he doesn't then I guess I will keep it or give it as a Christmas present.

Here are the pics.........
I tried a new lighting setup and I don't know that I like it all that much. Guess it's time to add brighter lights to the mix and try the old setup.

Nice pen Kevin. I am sure it will be well received. Did you turn it on the GWL?

Very nice. Yeah, lighting is off. The third picture almost looks like a different pen.

Re: 1st "Commission? Sold Well hopefully tomorrow" Pen

Thanks for the comments....

Scott no I didn't do that one on the GWL, I used my mini to finish it. I am going to get an MT2 Mandrel and give it s try on the GWL. I do have a couple of bowls that I am working on so I will have some pics of those soon. I am hooked on the bowl turning and know there will be a fullsized lathe in my future my decision now is do I save for the HF Lathe or do I just keep waiting and get a big dawg so I can turn some really large stuff. I can see where weight is your friend with some of these out of round pieces.

Tracy I am selling it for $75 I really should have charged more and will on future ones I think the minimum price point on something like this one will be $90 and up.

Andy yeah that third pick is probably the best of the worst. I set my lights on one side to see what would happen and I really don't like it at all. I am going to put one on each side and probably try something from above as well to see if I can get something better. I need to do it quickly this morning as I am off to church in about an hour. I guess this what I get for playing.

Kev, The pen looks much better "In Person". The 3rd pic does show better, but it really is stunning when you see it up close and personal. Great Job.

Re: 1st "Commission? Sold Well hopefully tomorrow" Pen

Kevin, nice job on the pen I am sure that the customer will love it - one thing that I have learned about commissions is that you tell them the price and if they agree to it then you tell them up front that you will have to have a deposit - I usually ask for a forth of the asking price - I have been burnt a few times and I don't want to go there again

Re: 1st "Commission? Sold Well hopefully tomorrow" Pen

Thanks for all the great comments. Phil yeah I think next time I will probably do something like that. I wasn't overly concerned with this guy I trust him but at the same time I also liked the pen enough that it wouldn't have hurt my feelings at all to have to have kept it. The customer was very pleased and paid me in cash on the spot so that it always nice. So after chruch I promptly treated the family to a lunch at Longhorn. All in all it was a good deal and I have a feeling I will probably get some additional sales from him in the future.

Re: 1st "Commission? Sold Well hopefully tomorrow" Pen

Kevin,

Very Nice Pen and Yup, true stone can be a bear to turn and finish. As for your price it is low, the last Jr. Statesman I sold in Ambyona Burl sold for $150.00,and yours in TrueStone sould sell for as much, this is one of the premier pens we make. I don't see how you guy could not like it.

Congratulations on the sale.
James

Re: 1st "Commission? Sold Well hopefully tomorrow" Pen

Jim yeah I was way low on the price. If I sell one again I am sure I will charge more. It paid for my lunch today so I am good. I never really got into this to make any money but this might change my mind. I love giving them away, but I also Like paying for lunch.
