Hey Everyone,
I am such an idiot sometimes. I was using the tablesaw with a dado set and I put all the blades on, so 13/16" and then put the collar (washer) on. I looked at it and thought, ahhh theres enough threads left.
Nope I stripped the Nut on the end. I can still use the nut with the dado set without the collar, but I can't use the single blade as I don't want to strip the threaded spindle as I think thats connected to the motor?
Well I went to lowes and tractor supply looking for a 5/8" X 12 threaded nut.... No luck
-So I bought some 5/8 washers, is it ok to use those???
-Anyone got a tap & die set with a 5/8x12 tap?
Thanks, And go ahead and laugh if you'd like~!

Surely they have replacements?

You'll need a nut from the OEM -- in all liklihood, the thread is an acme thread, not an SAE thread. You can tell very easily -- it is an acme thread if your saw arbor has "flats" between each thread on the shaft. That makes blades and washers slide on easier and it is a very strong male thread that is less susceptible to damage. Without enough purchase on the female nut, the threads there didn't have a chance.

Buy one from the MFG. What brand / size of tablesaw is it? |

Limited arbor space and a thinner nut is common on contractors saws, hybrids and others less than 1hp when using the widest dado setups. |

While I'd normally opt to spend many fruitless hours and/or days fixing something, this is one case I'd order a new nut from the MFG.
I learned the hard way not all companies threads are exactly the same in the real world. Best to avoid extra grief.
The added washers are probably ok, but unless you are in a deadline situation, I'd say avoid them. You get into issues of precision/balance that could introduce wobbles or uneven pressure.

Take it easy with that new nut, if it won't screw on very easily STOP. Take a close look at the threads and see if you can file out the mashed thread to make it as close as possible to the original. Don't force it on since that will ruin the new nut and maybe more of the shaft.

Let me add one more thought to this thread that should help you and others concerning wide dados. It isn't always possible to get your dado blades set up to be wide enough as you've found, so set the blades to 1/2" and then move the fence to sneak up on the exact width desired with second or third passes. You can use a piece of the stock that will go into the dado as a guage block against the fence to insure you don't over-shoot.

You can probably get one from McMaster-Carr. Measure diam. and TPI and remember it is a left hand thread ACME thread. |

It looks like the part number for a replacment arbor nut is: PM2000-261 . I would stick with the manufacturer's replacment part if possible. Hopefully the nut was made from a softer steel than the arbor, as there is a lot more involved with replacing the arbor. |

Thanks Scott for the Part#.
And I figured it would be alot more hassel to replace/fix the arbor. Thats why I stopped in the first place.
Will order the nut tomorrow..... It's just funny, When I finally got sick of my shop looking unorganized (Like Crap) I start cutting all that MDF I got last year, to build floor cabinets for storage and a work space, and just before I put them together this happens. Just needed to cut 6 MDF 1 5/16" pieces a little shorter to fit in the dado's.
Welp I guess I am on hold, and not because I'm slacking this time.
Anyway I will post before and after photos. The before's..... Well they will be embarrasing and maybe make a magazine's before and after.
