I am thinking about buying a reconditioned Ridgid oscillating edge/belt spindle sander, model EB4424. The reviews for the new sander is outstanding, but no reviews listed for the reconditioned sander. What is your thoughts on reconditioned power tools from Ridgid?

Re: Reconditioned power tools

from my experiance they are good as new. years ago I worked in retail and reconditioned meant that it didnt sell quick enough so it was sent back to the factory and [reconditioned] ! all they did was clean it up repackage it and send it back with a yellow label onit! should be able to save some bucks.

Re: Reconditioned power tools

I have purchased various re-conditioned tool in the past with success. I think it would depend on what the price difference is. I would think saving 25% would be a good price. Remember to include shipping.

Re: Reconditioned power tools

I bought a Ridgid Reconditioned 5" Random Orbit Sander and it has served me well. The only problem I had was that the reseller (not HD) did not include the PSA base that comes with the unit new. I called their customer service and they shipped one to me.

Re: Reconditioned power tools

Reconditioned is very good, they still have the same warrantee and they cost less.

For what it is worth, I have had 100% success with reconditioned products, tools, electronics, etc.

Re: Reconditioned power tools

Seems like the decision is made but my input would also be positive. I have a reconditioned Bosch Colt, a couple reconditioned DeWalt corded drills, and a reconditioned Hitachi 12 inch double bevel Compound Miter Saw. The Compound Miter Saw was the best deal, $150 (versus close to $300 new). 25% is probably more typical.

As long as the tool is basically a durable design in the first place, any wear on a reconditioned should not be an issue.

Re: Reconditioned power tools

I agree with all, but my only suggestion is to buy it from a reputable source. I bought a reconditioned PC ROS at one of the tool sales at the National Guard armory that was never right, and it didn't include any documentation, warranty, etc.

Otherwise, I have had good luck with reconditioned tools.

I doubt it's any good. let me know where you've found it and I'll check it out for you.

A lot of times the manufacurer will take care of you anyway. I bought a DeWalt router out of the box missing all the accessories at Sears for a very deep discount, contacted DeWalt and they sent me everything that was missing. I did make sure I was getting a receipt for a new DeWalt router, but DeWalt didn't even ask to see it.
