Re: Wood

I can just see it now....Here's Steve in front of the new PM....

"Now let me see.... there's the switch, I've got the blade installed so it will rotate in the right direction.... the guard is in place.... the cord runs across the floor... there is the outlet on the wall.... oops, the manual didn't tell me there was no plug on the cord -- drats! Oh, well, once I hire an electrician to get one of those put on the cord and I buy some wood, maybe I can get this puppy fired up!"

Re: Power

Just to report. The saw has been turn on and it actually turns on and doesn't flip any breakers. All the electirical work in the shop is done, except for a few motors to be rewired for 220. The dust collector first.

I have a Delta 50-760 Dust collector. The motor plate has it rated as 15 AMPs. When we turned it on, it immediately flipped the circuit breaker (15 amp)built into the extension cord I was using. I thought all breakers allowed a momentary over amperage stituation (25%) for a short time to allow for start up. To troubleshoot we plugged directly into a 110 20 amp circuit. No problem. We plugged 2 other 15 amp rated tools into the the extension cord no problem . So we decided to actually measure the amperage draw at the panel. The actual startup amps was over 50 but then settled down to 13.5 No other tool in the shop had anything close to that percentage of start up. No wonder the breaker went

Re: Power

I had a similar problem with my old DC, but it would trip the 15 amp breaker in the panel outright. Changed it to 220V and all was well.

I'm not sure if that's healthy, Steve. I was looking around and found this site that has quite a bit of info on "locked rotor amperage" codes and how to figure out how much amperage a motor should draw on start-up.
It does say that many motors draw 3X to 6X the operating amps at start-up, so maybe I'm worrying about nothing.

Healthy for me, the motor, or the wiring?
