Opinions on Jig Saws

Well, my 30 year old Porter-Cable jig saw just bit the dust. Something inside shorted and burned up the guts, plus everything inside was worn out, so it is time to buy a new one. Since I have not bought one in so many years, I would like to get opinions from those who have recently bought new jig saws to give me some feedback on which of the high-end jigsaws you like best and why. I've seen the Bosch and Freud which look nice. I say high-end because I hope that the next jigsaw will last 30 years.

Re: Opinions on Jig Saws

Rick, I have the Bosch 1590 EVS and it is great. I have used cheaper craftsman and other models in the past and there is just no comparison. It feels very solid and well made. The blade change is easy, the cuts are really clean, the blade does not run-out on curves and there is no splintering. The blower also works well to keep the sawdust of the cut line. There is an orbit selector which has 4 levels depending on the type of material you are cutting, but I have not used that much other than when making tight curves. I have had the Bosch for about a year now and it is one of the most precise tools I own.

I would buy it again in a second.

Re: Opinions on Jig Saws

I rented the BOSCH this summer to do some work at my in-laws beach house and it was a dream! I never knew cutting with a jig saw could be a pleasant experience.

Re: Opinions on Jig Saws

Bosch is all you need to know. I have the same one as MikeF, it replaced a B&D that I burnt up building an arbor. Night and day difference.

Re: Opinions on Jig Saws

I have a craftsman now. When I use it, I feel like I need to put on chaps and cowboy hat, riding a bull can't be much worse than using my jigsaw....

Bosch is my next jigsaw.

Re: Opinions on Jig Saws

I just bought the Bosch 1590 VSE last weekend and I like it more than any other SS that I have had. I think this is number 6.

Re: Opinions on Jig Saws

Get a Bosch. Had one before, replaced it with a DeWalt. The Dewalt is not bad, but Bosch is better for about the same money.

If you really want the best there is and spent some money doing it then get a Festool jig saw. There is even a $35 rebate available.

Re: Opinions on Jig Saws

Bosch all the way. I just bought a 2nd one because some times I catch myself changing blades more than I want to. I also have their in line jig saw. That is one sweet tool too. I don't think you can buy it anymore.

What convinced me was a demo by a Bosch factory rep years ago. He really put the saw through its paces. Granted he had lots of specific experience to hone his demo skills. t was awsome none the less though.

I'm trying to convince myself to buy one of their 3x21 belt sanders but I don't use belt sanders that much.

I don't use belt sanders either, but I'm about to get a second one! (see post: "Birthday Gloat.... Well Kinda!")

... or maybe it will be a nice new sanding block.
