Oliver Lathe

I am a new member this year and find the site very enjoyable, I have been moving into a new shop so I have not been able to get as involved in the site as I want to, almost done moving so pictures will be soon to come,
I bought a old oliver 3 stage lathe and was wondering if any body knew anything about these, It seems to be well built but I am new to turning and really dont know what i bought. Any info would be a help
Thanks again for all the good information,

Re: Oliver Lathe

I don't know anything about that lathe, except it sounds like a big one. Depending on how old it is you might look for information here www.owwm.com it is a site dedicated to the restoration and use of old woodworking machines. I found out the only information I have about my 60 yr. old Sears/Atlas lathe through that site. Good luck.

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

Re: Oliver Lathe

Dang Dave, every time I turn around your posting another cool link to some informative information. Although they didn't have much info about the 9" AMF DeWalt (1959) RAS I have, this site did provide me with a little more information about the history of the tool. Thanks for posting this link.

I learned it all from Insomniac the master of useful/less information.

Re: Oliver Lathe

That is a nice looking lathe Mickey. I hope you will post some in-progress photos of it as you go through the process of refurbishing it.

Re: Oliver Lathe

Now THAT is one manly looking lathe!!! That beauty wouldn't even fit into my shop/broom closet.

Now I know why you guys call it "tool porn." I feel flushed.
