I might be missing something here but, how can this help you do anything?

Seems a little gimmicky to me, but eh, who knows, no if it told me where the edge of the bits were it might be useful!

Hmmmm!

Perhaps if one changed the way a mortise was marked-out, this gadget might be very helpful. What I'm thinking is if the middle was marked instead of the sides and the end was marked at 1/2 of the router bit's diameter short of the end, then knowing where the center of the bit was going to cut should prove useful.

I haven't seen the thing nor do I know anything about it, but thought I'd contribute my $.02.

Re: New and Improved: OnPoint Router Laser Plate

I, too, thought that the laser guide need was questionable. In fact, the suggested usage in the ad was for plunge cut shelf pins and following lines for sign making . . . not big selling points. However, the plate does include battery powered LED light to improve visibility and a predrilled, offset plate and knob. I like the idea of improved lighting/visibility under the router, but I balk at paying $50-60. It's cheap to make shelf pin template and offset plate.

Thanks for the input folks
Roger

I agree that more light is what's needed, infact the other week I was forced to double stick tape a small torch (flashlight) to the base plate to illuminate the cut line - worked like a charm.
