HCM questions

Hi,

Just got a hollow chisel mortiser (PM701) and was wondering what oil to use on the machined dovetail surfaces. They say #2 grease for the gears but don't say what to use on the high friction surfaces.

Also is it common for it to squeek while the auger bit is turning or do I have something set up wrong?

thanks,
Steve

Re: HCM questions

No idea, but I'm sure someone will be along and have the answer.

Re: HCM questions

Almost any lube will work on the ways and rack and pinion. I like the dry spray on Teflon lube since dust isn't attracted to it or stick to it. The gibs can be a pain to adjust to get smooth slide operation, at least on my Delta HCM.

You can get a little squeek and rattle between the chisel and the bit. People use various lubricants for that like PAM, etc. Others can chime in with what they use. Whatever you use, make sure it doesn't contain silicone!

Re: HCM questions

I have been using WD-40. It may be the wrong stuff to use but it does stop the squeek. It also takes jsut a short squirt, next to nothing to make the squeek go away. If this is the wrong stuff, please someone chime in on the "right stuff". No movie pun intended.
