Several months ago I got a deal on a DW735 planer but it has been sitting in the box until yesterday. I mounted it on a Ryobi miter saw stand and it is working out excactly as I planned The planer and mounting platform slide on the rails, and the outfeed supports are extendable so I have no trouble with my recycled full 4/4 heart pine which run between 4 and 8 feet long. I plan on purchasing another set of mounting brackets so the stand can also be used for my miter saw if need be. Once I set up the RAS a majority of crosscutting will be done on it so a stand for the MS is not a pressing issue.
This is a 4' piece of stock with the outfeed support close to the planer. The planer is mounted on a piece of 3/4" ply with threaded inserts and cap bolts which is then fastened to the two brackets with carriage bolts.

The base is 3/4" ply reinforced with 2by stock mounted on 3" locking casters. The pockets for the splayed legs were drilled with a forstner bit matching the 20/70 offset angles. With the planer tipping the scales at nearly 100lbs, gravity does a great job keeping things in place

This is a 8 foot piece of stock with outfeed support extended, the support length variability is great !!!!

For those who are concerned that there was a shop explosion, the answer is no, I am still in the process of setting up

Glenn, that is a great idea. It never would have occurred to me to mount my planer on a MS stand! Very functional.
BTW, YOU ROCK!

Thought you'd like that 735! We sure do. Nice setup with the stand.

I was going to say that, but had to put my daughter to bed. Now I get back and it's already been said
Great idea

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

Sorry Dave...just stating the obvious. If you like I'll retract my post just so you can say it.

Glenn,

Congrats on getting the new planer up and running. But what I noticed most was how full and messy the shop has become, just a few months ago it was empty. Welcome to the club of overfilled shops. Maybe it's time to build a shed for those coolers and other things, or as a finishing room.

Good Luck,
Jimmy

Glenn,

Congrats on the planer!!! YOU ROCK!!!

I did notice that you don't have the infeed and outfeed
tables on the planer. I know that they are 'accessories', but
how are you controlling snipe without them? Or, is it not a
problem?

Thanks,

Archie

Thanks Jimmy, I already have a shed and a lot of the misc. goods are destined to live there but that is currently overloaded with a 1/2 pallet of bagged concrete My priority was to get the storage unit in town emptied out so I could use the rental money elsewhere you are right though, it is amazing how quickly a 24x24 space fills up ergo I am putting casters on dang near everything.

Dewalt claims that their feed roller system eliminates snipe and so far I have found that to be true. Because the planer can be slid on the stand mounting rails I can move it right up against the in/outfeed supports if needed which would put support right where the Dewalt tables would be. Having said that, I am careful that the stand supports are level with the table base under the cutter head. Because the stand supports slide in and out as needed, they can be moved as stock progresses through the machine thus total control of support length is possible. This planer stand method with the long length has a pretty good side benefit , it forces one to stand to the side of the machine out of the danger zone in case of the rare kickback on the infeed side.

Glenn,

Great work and I'm jealous! I just missed picking up and older (~10+ years) Delta planer at the flea market for $100 last weekend.

I guess I really should take pictures of my "shop" so every body else can smugly say "well my shop is neater than that..."

But I've been reluctant to advertise it's current state of unfinished ness and disarray!

Thanks for that information, Glenn. It is a good looking setup
you have there.

As you know from the threads I've started on
planers, I'm in the market(soon) for a planer. Been doing my
homework, asking a lot of questions, and trying to learn all I can
in order to make a good decision when it come time to plunk
down the long green. Looks like it is gonna boil down to the
Delta 22-580, DeWalt DW734 or DW735. Not sure yet. Depends
on how much I get back from Uncle Sam, if I can find good
used equipment, and any good sales.

Thanks,

Archie
