Craftsman mortiser?

I just got the Craftsman club sales catalog and it is going on sale for $169.99. A quick google search turned up mixed reviews. Does anyone have any experience with the Craftsmans mortiser? I was looking at the Jet mortiser this morning and just about all the reviews on it were positive.

Re: Craftsman mortiser?

I don't know anything about the Craftsman model you're mentioning, can't find any info on the website and don't have one.
But I can recommend this mortiser -

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...m-20/ref=nosim

I do have it and it is an excellent machine. The cast iron table and fence are very nice. The fence adjustment system is smooth, and it has the leverage and HP to punch a square hole in anything I have thrown at it.

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.
