| | Anybody got a Hybrid Table Saw? Name: KENNETH City: Selma State: NC County: Johnston Join Date: Dec 2007 01-09-2008, 10:27 AM
I again find myself displeased with the results I get from my contractor's saw. I have been looking at hybrid table saws, mostly for the ease of 110 volt connection.
There have been numerous articles in the magazines lately, all with different recommendations and results.
I was wondering if anyone has one and would be kind enough to share your opinion of what you like or dislike about your saw. I have seen numerous bad responses to the Delta hybrid on amazon.com, but not alot of informtion on the others.
If I were to purchase today, I would strongly lean towards the Steel City just because of the reviews.

Go to a dealer that sells Steel City and others, and ask them to show you the differences, I'm sure you will be impressed.
Either way, good luck with your choice.
Jimmy Actually, the Sears 22124 and the Steel City use the same parts catalog and are made by the same company. I got mine before Orion formed the Steel City tradename to sell outside Sears. However, it looks like their upgraded machines will not be sold thru Sears.

Many reviews on the steel city and Craftsman zipcode saw. One guy at Sawmill creek has reviewed the zipcode which he owns. Look for threads by Scott Spencer. |

Just today I got Fine woodworking's Tools and Shops Issue, they did comparisons on all of the Hybrid Tablesaws. Best Overall and Best Value was the same saw... The Woodtek 148-271 for $760. And it sells at Woodworkers Supply in Graham, NC. www.woodworker.com
Good luck,
Jimmy

Jimmy Just to further clarify what Bladeburner said...the 22124 has the trunions mounted to the cabinet as does the Steel City. Unless something has changed the motor in the SC saw and the Sears 22124 are the same 1 3/4 HP motor...look at the saws, they are identical. The Orion connection...they are the same saw.
I have the 22124 and love it. I've cut 8/4 hardwoods with it with no trouble, of course I will adjust the feed if necessary. For 95% of what you'll cut it's not necessary, it will cut whatever I throw at it without complaint.
It was dead-on out of the box and I've not yet had to adjust it (~3 yrs) in any way. Biese fence, etc. etc. I'd buy it again.
Good luck with your decision.
