I ran across this video of a silent film of some woodworkers. Check it out. Hope this works:

Now that's old school. Amazing video though I'd be lost without my power tools

Re: Old School Woodworking

Thanks!!! What an amazing video.

Its so rare for me to see old craftsmen/tradesmen working. All that hachet work, the adze, and that one spoon or slip auger was really interesting.

I really feel seeing them work at speed is key to our education. Too many videos and classes these days are too slow. I tend to blaime excessively high production values, but thats just one mans opinion

Feel free to keep posting such gems!

Jim

Re: Old School Woodworking

That is a treasure! Thank you for posting the link. You know those men had a heck of a hand shake with the strength required to do that work. It was very interesting to see how they worked with the pieces pinned against the table or wedged in between the log in lieu of other holding devises. Great video.

Re: Old School Woodworking

The second time I watched the video, I concentrated on the sun shadows. Looks like those clogs were made in 2 hours! Spoon in less than 1 hour! Chair frames in about 3 hours!
Am I close?

What! No safety glasses?

Ooooops forgot...here's some more.
