WoodGuy Rocker Class Day 5 (They are Rockin)
Well, they guys has busted a move and hey are all rocking. All the chair jointery is complete for them. The last day will be a bonus shaping day for the guys. We are a full day ahead of schedule. Click on the pictures for a bigger pic.
Here they are sitting.
It was actually a light day. They guys were heading out by at least 4:00.
Give the guys a hand. They worked hard, stretched their skills, and have succeeded. All the chairs rocker beautifully and will look terrific after hours of rasping and shaping.
Thanks,
John

Re: WoodGuy Rocker Class Day 5 (They are Rockin)
It has been really cool seeing these chairs come together, and all the different interpretations of the basic style. It looks like there still is quite a bit of shaping to be done..man, John, you give a lot of homework

Re: WoodGuy Rocker Class Day 5 (They are Rockin)
An excellent job done by everyone, instructor included -- I'm looking forward to participation in my second class with John -- cabinet making starts next Saturday, and I am psyched up for it! But kudos to Steve, Monty, Brandon and, of course John for great craftsmanship!

Ditto all of the above praises. Those are going to be some great looking chairs, not to mention all of the new skills and learning the guys picked up. Nice job guys and a bit "atta boy" to John!

Re: WoodGuy Rocker Class Day 5 (They are Rockin)
Today was probably the best day of the class. To actually be able to sit in the rockers and rock in them makes it all worthwile, although we still have a lot of work ahead of us. I know one thing though. There is now way we could have made all of this happen without John and his skill.

Re: WoodGuy Rocker Class Day 5 (They are Rockin)
I'm just the guide. It was you guys (Brandon, Monty, and Steve) that took the walk. To me the best part of learning to make these, beyond the the obvious fact you have a beautiful rocker, is the confidence and skills you walk away with. When I went to learn to make these I looked at Marc's chair and thought, "How will I ever be able to do that?" In just a matter of a few days I went from bewildered to confindent and inspired. I could see that in these guys too.
A side affect of this class is, these guys will analyze every rocker they encounter from here on out.
Thanks,
John

Re: WoodGuy Rocker Class Day 5 (They are Rockin)
It was definitely good to see the chairs all come together as planned. The rocking motion was smooth, and all the chairs seem comfortably balanced.
I know I learned a lot in the process - not just about making a Maloof-style chair. If anyone has an opportunity to do this project, I can say it's definitely worth the cost and the effort. John gives selflessly of his woodworking knowlege and resources. And, as a bonus, I had a perfectly good excuse to buy some nice new tools!
