LOML needs a better table for the TV, DVD player, and DirectTV box in our spare room. I made this from reclaimed oak. This is my first go at making flat panels; I can feel some rise in the top of the upper panel.

Well, I clamped and glued everything together. When using C clamps, I used oak scraps to prevent marring of the wood. I got the usual marks from the Jorgenson clamp pads, and this time from my kwip-grip clamps as well. I have rubbed DNA on those spots, but they persist.

Should I go heavier with the DNA, or can I finish sand the spots off?

For the finish, if it warms up for a day, I will use some leftover Waterlox Original Sealer and Finish (hopefully it hasn't gelled, as I put some marbles in the can to eliminate air space).

Re: TV Table

Another trick that works for any type of small indent or clamp mark is to put water on the area and then immediately put an iron on it set to silk or the low setting. The steam forces up the fibres and the dent disappears! Saves the possibility of sanding the area too deeply and showing in the final result. Saved me many a time!

Re: TV Table

Fine looking TV table!

You really cannot beat the ease of application and the look of Waterlox.

Sure looks like it's ready to put into service for many enduring years ahead!

Well done!

Nice job. I like the little taper on the legs.

when you say "reclaimed" you mean reclaimed from what? Just curious.

Re: TV Table

that turned out great! how did you get the clamp marks off? I sometimes find they disappear on their own sometimes.

Re: TV Table

Andrew, the oak had a former life as a barn. It was rough sawn, with blade marks all over it, and years of weather had left is with a charming rustic patina.

Fred, I used 220 grit sandpaper (thanks for the tip, Rob), and the marks were vanquished.
