My daughter (4 years old) requested a rabbit stepstool for her birthday. This what I came up with based loosely on some designs I've seen around. Pink is her favorite color:

Painted from rattle cans and clear coated with Triple Thick.

That's cute, somebody's going to be proud of her daddy. Enjoy them while you can, they grow up so fast. I remember fondly mine being 4 and now she's 26 with a son of her own.

Re: rabbit stepstool

Ha! that's really cool - proof positive that something doesn't have to be complicated to impress a child. In my case, I had a nephew's 3rd birthday to think up something for, on 4 days notice (I'm really terrible at remembering my own birth date, much less relatives). I went down to the shop and whittled out a few of those little hand helicopter toys I remember from my youth. The aerodynamics are more complicated than I'd thought, but after a couple of failures I managed to crank out 5 of them in 2 days and get them in the mail in time for the birthday.

It was really easy to make (anyone could do it with even rudimentary woodworking skills), but the reports are that the bright plastic toys from the store got abandoned in favor of the wooden ones. That was cool - nothing like beating out Wal-Mart for a kid's attention these days.
