I have started a new entertainment center and thought I would try to post some progress pictures this time.

The wood haul, well not such a haul but it was very expensive this trip at Charlotte Hardwood center. I'm working on some more reasonable suppliers now.

Its all ripped and mostly sawdust now, but these came out of it.

Basically these 2 sides and faceframes will be the side cabinets for a bigger center cabinet. The large upper opening will be pullout DVD/Tape storage.
A couple of additional views for this are in my gallery.

More to come.....

Great work so far, Mark. Thanks for the WIP pictures! Those fluted columns will add a real classy touch!

That is looking good Mark. Your grain matching for your side panels is superb.

Ah the joys of computer rendering!! Don't forget my offer of turning an idea sketch into a rendering for anybody that wants to see what a design might look like.

Re: New entertainment center in progress

Ok it's time for my next installment for the WIP on the entertainment center. The unit is complete minus final sanding and finishing.

The rest of the pictures i'll just do link's for.

This one show's some of the detail for the crown molding (which I hate with a passion) I'm relatively sure crown molding was invented by the devil.

Here is the media drawer's. I really was not sure how to proceed with them so I fell back on what i'd done (basically they are sideways drawers)

The last picture shows the bottom cabinets. You will notice that there is no hardware at the bottom, seems my sister-in-law's kids love to use any type of handle as toe holds for climbing. I ended up routing some finger slots on the opening edges.

Overall this has been a fun project and i've learned alot again, but I think i'll try something else before another of these.

Re: New entertainment center in progress

Mark,

I like the fluted columns a lot...oh, and the doors..and the proportions. The crown molding is appropriate. That creation is fit for a KING!

Last October I made a trip to Italy and spent a few days in Rome. I've gotta tell ya' that piece could sit next to the Pantheon IMHO.

What a beautiful entertainment center.

Now you've got me wondering...whatcha gonna do for a finish?

Seriously that is some very pretty stuff you got there.

Re: New entertainment center in progress

Great looking entertainment stand Mark. As much as you say you hate crown molding you did a superb job installing it on this cabinet. What are you going to use to finish it?

Re: New entertainment center in progress

Nice!! I like the pull-out media storage. Will you have something in those to keep DVDs/CDs/Tapes upright? Also, I was gonna ask about hardware, but you answered that question... safety first!
