Was practicing using my Leigh D4 that I just got on some through dovetails to get used to the jig. Used some sappy walnut. Decided not to waste the pieces, added some ambrosia maple and so I come up with this...I guess it will be a shop box...so much to learn!!! But was fun!

That's a way pretty box for the shop. Mine are all made of plywood.

Re: My simple little accidental box...

Thanks for the comments. Not fine woodworking by far, but I salvaged the wood used to practice with the jig. The Leigh D4 dovetail jig has a great owners manual. For all dovetails it walks you through step by step. My first try using the directions ended up with the small walnut box. Instead of wasting the wood, I used some spalted wood for top and bottom. I have quite a bit of the spalted (ambrosia) wood on my shelves and was wondering where to use it. Then cut the lid off on the tablesaw to separate the box from lid. As shown, there is just 2 applications of 50% BLO and 50% Mineral Spirits. Actually, I now have it in the house using it for a valet to keep my wallet, keys and other junk in my pockets stored.

I keep waiting on an accident like that to happen to me. Beautiful work!

Re: My simple little accidental box...

Nice work, Wayne!!!

I just wish that my scrap bin had some of that fine looking timber laying on the bottom. All I can find is scrap BORG plywood, MDF and pine cutoffs

Wise move in moving it indoors where it can be admired by lots of folks!

Thanks for sharing.

Wayne
