Here is my latest finished piece, thought I would throw it out there for critique. It is a his/hers idea, the headboard is quilted bird'e eye on the left and qtr sawn cherry on the right. Both veneered on mdf. Platform is hard maple and cherry ply. Top rails are bent lamination and sub structure is soft maple. It is finished with 5 coats of danish oil and I waxed it three times. I think maybe I should have put a fair curve on the sides.

That's a really interesting idea, and it looks like you did a great job on the veneers. Nice work!

Rhett,
That is a wonderful design and looks to be beautifully built. Contemporary furniture requires a certain taste here in the south, I've noticed. You and Dave O would be dangerous together Thanks for sharing the work.

Actually, it looks better up close and in person
Rhett was kind enough to share some time with me this afternoon and I admit to twisting his arm to post this piece. As Barbara noted he has a wonderful sense of design, including other unique pieces that exhibit oriental influences. And obviously he has the woodworking skills to execute.

Thanks for sharing Rhett,
Roger

Rhett, I really like the design and the contrast of the Cherry and Maple veneers. I agree that a slight inward curve on the sides would have added a nice touch to it, but without it is still an awesome piece. I need to make something like that so I can show my wife where her side of the bed is...she quite the bed hog

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

That's an interesting design and beautiful craftsmanship. Very unique. I like it a lot. Really, it's more a piece of art.

I'm not sure the side curves are really needed. There's already a lot going on with the headboard.
