Evening all. I returned to work the mid of December (YEA YEA YEA) so I just don't get time to be in the shop much less get online. The net police aren't happy about me just looking at the site at work, much less taking the time to log on and post something!!! The message at the top of the screen reminding me I haven't been around for a while worked on my conscience so I'll show a couple of things I've done. The first thing that happened at work was someone saw one of my pens and I got hit up for some as gifts. The pics I took of them didn't turn out at all. Just some PSI comfort pens and pencils from rosewood, bocote. I'm not up to the same speed turning as others here that's for sure. But people still liked them.

Now, I seem to be in the "lets clean up the shop a bit" mode. In this pic you can see an old TV/bookcase I inherited in a move.

I moved it and added some doors to hide the mess.

I'm still working on the router table and just got my Rousseau insert for it. Now I need to get up the nerve to make the cuts and get it in the top. I'm assuming a spiral up bit for the recess after cutting the hole?????

Also, I'm working on a little cell phone charger garage for our kitchen. Sorry the pics not better, I just stopped and shot as I went by. It'll hold a plug strip and hide the chargers for the cells and the home phone. Then there'll be a little drawer underneath to hide change, keys, etc., anything that just gets thrown and strewn on the counter. I've got the stain on it and will put some shellac on it. It's maple, yes I should have sealed it, but I didn't. The color matches the kitchen cabs. I'll get a pic when it's finished. The body of it has little slots for the charger cords to come through and the top has cleats for holding cells, etc.

Last thing is a lumber cart. All my pieces were on the floor leaning against the wall. I hate that. So I made this from a plan in an old 101 Shop projects mag. I think it turned out good!!

Sorry I don't post here as much as others, but I'm always looking. Thanks for looking at my stuff.

Tom

Boy, can I relate about not being able to even look at the site at work. Looks like you've got a good handle on cleaning up your shop. Want to tackle ours next?

I can relate, too, but I sneak a peak, and more rather often. I am a BAAAD Man!

don't worry about posting often Tom, just keep coming back

Well, Tom I know how long it takes to get things done when you're tied up at work. It looks like you've done pretty well.

The doors do a great job of cleaning up the appearance of the shelves. I like your router table. Not sure about which bit to use though.

I'm sure the lumber cart has helped get stock out of the way, too. BTW it needs more lumber. I'm sure there are folks around here who can help you fill it up!

The phone charger "garage" is a great idea. That's a great way to organize the kitchen. Please post finished pics when you're done.

Thanks for looking all. I really like the lumber cart. All the pieces used to be on the floor gathering spiders, leaves, dirt, etc. Now I can just roll the whole lot out and clean behind and under. I was worreid about the stability of it and how tippable it would be but it seems to roll fine. I'm not too sure about the bit to make the cut for the plate either. I think the papers with the plate mentioned the up spiral bit. I'm sure there's many ways to go about it. I'm always one to analyze stuff to death. Drives my wife nuts!!! But I just need to put the door together and get the plate in and I'm set. I'll get the finish on the garage and put the hinges and top on and get some better pics.

Thankx,
Tom

Great looking projects Tom. I'm glad to see that you are working again...it's been a while

When I made the recess for my router plate. I made a inside template of the plate by tracing it and cutting out the shape of the plate leaving a hole in the middle of the piece of MDF. Then I used a top bearing 1/2" flush trim straight bit to plow a groove whose bottom became the lip that the plate rests on. Then I drilled a hole in the waste area of what will be the cut out and used my jigsaw to cut the rest of the waste out just to the inside of the inside edge of the groove I plowed earlier. I cleaned up the remain waste near the edge of the lip with a chisel. I worked really well for me.
HTH,
Dave

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

Glad you are back at work, but sorry it reduces the shop/NCWWer time Tom. The shop looks great, too clean for spiders and such

Roger
