Beautiful job on the project and I agree with your decision to hold off on the new toy until you gain some practice. Spraying takes a little time and adjusting to get right and cardboard boxes are far more forgiving than beautiful figured woods.

It is a beautiful box Chuck. The bar was been raised another notch. The picture with the reflection in the mirror is great. Most people don't give much thought to the back, but that picture shows why you should.

I ripped to width, then resawed to 3/16, then planed to exactly the thickness of my WWII kerf (so the joint areas would glue tightly). Dividers are removeable but fit very snug. Lacquer finish.

Fortunately the padauk seems to be pretty stable so I didn't have a problem with cupping, bending after resawing. I've done the same with purpleheart with no problems.
