I've had the V27 for a year or so. There is a problem with slop that I believe is related to the screw that fastens the protractor to the miter bar (the one that the protractor pivots around). There is zero slop in the miter slot. I can move the end of my fence furthest from the blade maybe 3/32 inch +/-.

I have been unable to fix the problem and wonder whether this is a known issue with this gauge and if anyone has a fix.

Re: Incra V27 Slop

I don't have one, but I remember something awhile back on nylon washers or split nylon washers being a problem.

Re: Incra V27 Slop

Chuck,
My 15-year-old tablesaw mitre slot was pretty worn when I purchased the V27 about a year ago. The adjustment was easy and it has worked like a charm for me.

But now you have me worried about the nylon washers

Roger

Chuck, I hate to tell you this, but I have yet to find a miter gauge with a fence attached that doesn't do this. The longer the fence the more the movement.

Actually, I guess the Osborne EB3 shouldn't. I'll let you know.

Ones's I have already tried:

Incra V1000
JDS Accu-miter
The big Jess-em honker
3 different Deltas
The new PM2000 Miter Gauge
The Dewalt

Steve, mine was never perfect but the movement has definitely worsened over the past few months. I wouldn't even think about using it for stock over 20 inches long. I emailed Taylor Design Group and a tech is supposed to get in touch with me tomorrow. I believe Incra stands behind their product, so, we'll see if there's a fix.

Have you bought the EB-3? If so, please let us know what you think. It would be encouraging to find a miter gauge that offers both precision and ruggedness...for less than a thousand dollars!

Chuck, I have the V-27 and had no such problems with it
so far. Do you keep you instructions that came with the V-27 ? If so,
refer to them about re-adjusting the entire miter gauge from the start,
and be sure to adjust the screw that is hidden underneath the protractor
head and then work outward toward the tip end, one adjustment screw
at a time while sliding the gauge back and forth toward the far end of the saw and back. I did this and have no side ways slop or excess clearance
at any point along the gauge, it fits perfectly and works both ways
nice and smooth as it should. If I ever upgrade to another brand of saw,
I'll keep my V-27, it is the best miter gauge I have ever used. I had one of the cheaper Delta ones ($29.00) from Klingspor Woodworking at first,
didn't like it on my saw at all after I found the V-27! Hope this helps....

Re: Incra V27 Slop

I'm not talking about sideways slop in the miter slot and I don't think chuck is either. I'm talking about rotational slop when you apply pressure to one end of the fence.

Re: Incra V27 Slop

I have the EB-3. I don't have any slop in it (that I have noticed). Overall, I am satisfied with it. I wouldn't say I am thrilled with it.

Yep, that's the slop I'm seeing. Nothing side to side in the slot.

Jim, I did actually take the gauge completely apart a few months ago and attempt to tune it up...no luck. An Incra tech is supposed to call me tomorrow.

I talked with Taylor Design and they are going to custom bore a replacement for me and ship at no charge. Will let you know how it works out.

They said that they allow .001 clearance between the screw and protractor hole which will always result in slop at the end of a 24 inch fence. I would expect that the replacement will be more difficult to rotate if it is a tight tolerance fit.

Re: Incra V27 Slop

Just to follow up, Taylor design custom bored a replacement protractor to replace mine. I put it on tonight and it has virtually eliminated the slop.

They sent me the replacement promptly, it just took me a while to put it on.

I checked the gauge to blade angle with my Incra square and it was spot on. I mean REALLY spot on. I did some cuts to verify. Perfect.

Hats off to Taylor Design/Incra for standing behind their product.

Re: Incra V27 Slop

Chuck, could you give us other V27 owners some contact info about this part?

I looked up the phone number here Precision Woodworking with Incra Fences, Jigs, Rules and Other Precise Woodworking Tools

There's an email link but I prefer to talk one-on-one for support. They were professional and sent me a replacement promptly. It took me a few days to reach someone. I think the technical guy who handles this was out.

I explained the problem and he sent a replacement protractor and mounting screw. The issue was the tolerance in the fit between the screw and the hole in the protractor. The replacement has a tight fit but doesn't bind excessively.
