My brother came to me a couple of weeks ago.
He said he drew his boss'es name to to give a gift to at the Christmas party and had no idea what to get. He wondered if I could help him out.

He gave me 2 requirements.
It had to involve a hatchet..or axe. His boss is apparently always motivating them by saying "Back to Chopping Wood:.

He also said it had to fit on his boss desk.

Due to everything else, I let him know I was busy but said I had an idea.

Here is a picture of what I came up with.

The base is Walnut. I had a little piece to use.
The hatchet head is leftover Poplar from the plane project. I freehand cut it.
And the pen is African Blackwood.

Re: Chopping Wood

Michael, you nailed this one
Very creative and addresses the theme perfectly. It also has a nice balance, including the color contrast.

Re: Chopping Wood

Mike that is really cool. I like how you used the pen as the handle for the hatchet. Yep, this ain't a gift that you can buy in a store, it's a custom created work of art.
Your brother is gonna be due a bonus soon..maybe he'll share with you

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

That is very very cool. I love the choice of wood for all the pieces. Hopefully it brings your brother a nice raise.
