Boy am I on a roll, the wrong kind

If they give an award for the biggest idiot of the first quarter of 2008 I have already won it and it is just the middle of March.

And now my latest screw up. I can not say for sure just how many drawers I have made with the Leigh D4 but is a bunch. Please let me say in self defense it has been awhile. I started off by putting the wrong bit in the router . Of course this was caused by not putting the bit back in the correct holder . Wasted a whole lot of time before I realized what was going on. After this everything seemed to be going great. Tight fit on the halfblind dovetails and everything seemed to be level and square. Set the Frued Dial a Width up and started cutting groves for the drawer bottoms. Being the ever vigilant woodworker I put one drawer together just to make sure everything was OK. This is when I noticed a great big hole in one end. When I had set the fingers up on the D4 I had not noticed how much difference in space there was between the left side and the right side. No problem with the tails but a real problem with the pin sockets when it comes time to cut the grove for the drawer bottom. Set up to cut down the center of the socket on one end and blew out the other end. The only good news is I have only done one drawer. I now have to figure out which way I want to cut the grooves. I do not like any of the choices. Think I might just go ahead and blow out one end and then fix it. This would be quicker than anything else I can think of. The piece is to finish out a bedroom suit for my son. I do not think he would even notice if I left the holes.

I thought coming in and posting this would make me feel better but it did not work. Somebody send me a reply that will help with the healing.

Where is Bas when you need him?

Re: Boy am I on a roll, the wrong kind

Biggest idiot of 1Q2008? HAHAHAHAHA....not even close. NOT EVEN CLOSE! In the past couple of days, we've had people trying to cut off their fingers, attending the shop crawl a week early, trying to get Jeff to take up turning, and going to Walgreen's with a nail in their finger. And even they don't make it to the NOMINATION list!

Dude...you actually know how to make dovetailed drawers. You've successfully used a Leigh D4 jig. You built a bedroom set. Not just a shop project. Something that actually leaves the shop and will be used.

Yeah, you'll be mad at yourself for a while, and then you'll think of a solution. Like repair the holes. Or cut the tails and pins off, make new ones, and add a secret compartment to make up for the space. Or do something with contrasting wood to turn it into a feature. Or genetically engineer a termite to actually fill wood holes.

People want to have my problems with having to build all those jigs? I want your problems!!!

(Feel better now? )
