Well I made that 3/8's box end jig and here is my first try at using it. The dark wood is walnut and the light wood is maple...with a walnut bottom and maple top. My first mistake was trying to cut the ends with the grain running side to side instead of up and down... so it didn't turn out to be the full 7.5" width of the board. I also had the depth of the bit set a bit too high so the joints stuck out past the sides but a straight bit with a bearing ontop took care of that real quick. It has three coats of poly.
What ya think?

Palmer,

The box turned out great! I guess that box jig really works. Nice job!

Re: Box End Box

Very nice box, I really like the contrasting woods, that really shows off the box jointed corners. I don't think that you made a mistake running the grain on the box sides in a horizontal orientation. It would have been more of a mistake to run the grain vertically, from a strength stand point. If it ran vertical the fingers would be much more likely to break as wood will split easier with the grain than across it.

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

Re: Box End Box

Nicely done, Palmer. Those joints look tighter than a banker's grip on a moneybag.
