One of my wife's friends is getting married next month. My wife asked me to make something for a wedding gift. Seeing as I traditionally make a cutting board for the newly-weds. That is what I decided to do. But being the glutton for punishment that I am I decided to try something new and highlight the joinery instead of just making a slab for them.

Here's Anna's cutting board -

QS Beech with Black Walnut accents and frame. Brass pins to hold the bread board ends on. Mineral oil and bees wax finish. 14½" x 19½"

The only screw ups that I can see is the grain orientation. The BB-end aren't oriented the same way, and some how I took perfectly good QS Beech and ripped/flipped it and now I have a face grain board

Thanks for looking and commenting.

Dave

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

Looks great! If you had not told us of your "design change" we never would have known. I bet the friends think it too nice to use.

pretty dog gone cool there Dave - so just why do you "traditionally make a cutting board for the newly-weds" and just what are you trying to say by your gift?

Looks good Dave, but I'd hate to be the first to put a knife to it 'cause it looks so purdy.

My husband and I made two nice large cutting boards. We gave one to our neighbor with instructions to use it, cut on it, that's what it is made for. I had a difficult time following my own advice, my husband had to make the first cut. BTW, that is a beautiful piece, the bride will be pleased, may we borrow your design? Where would you get the brass pins?

Looks awesome Dave. The QS beech is pretty tough, even as face grain it will hold up a long time. The brass pins are gorgeous.

Please explain to me how you could call this beautiful project " screwed up "
I'm sure this whole face grain argument is valid and probably woodworking technique at it's most basic, but all I see is one amazing cutting board

So can you 'splain to me the reason for your discontent ?

....yeah my diaper is showing again
