Re: Triangle Woodworkers Assoc (TWA) Membership

I have been a member for over 20 years, with a small lapse in the middle. The drive for me is about 45 -60 minutes, but I generally try to do it for a couple of reasons: one, I want to support the community of woodworkers. If we do not have this opportunity for face-to face, then there is no other opportunity available. Online is nice, but not so warm and fuzzy to me to me. Two, the demonstratins and workshops, while they ovver a rangeo of quality and relevance to me, are still a grate learning opportunity and a way to have a one-on-one interaction with another woodworker. I generally learn something that I can squirrel away in my little pea-brain!

I think we could take ome lessons from the Woodturners. Every meeting has a live demonstration. There is also a show and tell which gets published in their newsletter. Lastly, they have break-out sessions. there happen about twice a year. Members open up their shops anbd offer to teach/shhow a specific woodturning skill. the cost is free. Generally they have about a half dozen workshops spread out over a couple of weeks.

I think we could streamline our programs to be of greater interest--eliminate the auction, for example. Also cut out the industry reps. We should flog our membeship for more local people to present, and to provide more infrastructure and guidance for those presentations. What I hear clearly from the comments above is that people do not feel that the programs are interesting enough to draw them in regularly. If we had our people presenting this would surely drtaw us together. I still think we shold have 2-3 national level speakers.

Lastly, I think our dues should go up to $40 or possily $50, while at the smae time bringing out a stellar yearly program.

I would pay that or more for really good presentation..that I could hear clearly.
A movie now days costs around $10, to go to a good movie once a month would be $120 or more if you like candy

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

Re: Triangle Woodworkers Assoc (TWA) Membership

I am not a member but I was asked to speak at one of their meetings, I accepted, on the topic of what else but lumber. Although I seemed to have lost contact with TWA, I thought they may have dissolved, since there was no follow up. But now I know they are still meeting, it makes me wonder what happened.

Truth be known, I was priming Bas to stand up and speak for me so he would take the pies and tomatoes instead of me

Thanks
