I will do what I can to catch back up with folks on my way to Wilmington in early July. I plan to take a few pieces to donate to "Kids Making It" anyway and can probably fit some more around all of my kids' toys. ug...

Rod that is awesome that you are taking some stuff to KMI. They are an awesome program and one I support as often as I can

Thanks for all of the responses. I look forward to the Santa run and, more importantly, meeting all of you. I will send another post as soon as I figure out the final logistics.

Rod thank-you, you are the true spirit of what this site is about. Woodworkers helping woodworkers. I applaud you and look forward to meeting you also

Sounds like a good opportunity - it's a shame that $ is tighter due to gas prices.

Rod, I would be interested in both the dried black walnut and black cherry.

I can use some walnut, cherry, and ash, probably 25-30bf each. (Fill my small garage here in Raleigh.)

Re: "Santa" Lumber Run

Can we call dibs on anything? I'd *really* like some of the air dried walnut, but I'm fairly certain that it will all be gone by the time you get to Raleigh unless I can make a reservation. My needs are modest; maybe 25BF?

No matter the answer THANKS for doing this - class act all the way!

Santa Run Update...

I am going to my wood stash for the weekend and will NOT have access to a computer/email/radio/television...it's quite nice actually. I will, however, have my cell on me and get reception if the wind blows right and the sun is shining from the right angle. (82230-5915

While at the farm, I am going to take inventory of what I have to the usable bf. I will post a reply to this forum on Monday sometime listing exactly what I have. I should have close to what I originally posted unless I feel any of it is unusable for some reason (mouse pee for instance).

I am a bit worried about the walnut and ash requests. I'm not sure I will have enough ash at this point. As for walnut, I have more than I know what to do with BUT only a portion is dry. I will put a stack of green on the trailer...most of which is in slab form...2" thick non-dimensional natural edge.

Thanks so much,
Rod

Rod - I think you'll really enjoy doing the lumber run and meeting everyone - it's a great time.

Thanks Jeff! That's really why I'm doing it in the first place. I can never seem to find time when I can go to events and I have seen some people do lumber runs in the past. It sounds like a great time and it's always nice to put a face with a name.
Maybe you can swing by Raleigh and we can meet too.
Thanks,
Rod

Re: "Santa" Lumber Run

Rod,
I'm good for about 100 ft of the cherry, some walnut and some turning stock(as long as it's bowl stock). That is if it even makes it to Raleigh. Keep us posted on what is available, and the final time.

Thanks,
Jimmy

Re: "Santa" Lumber Run

I hope this isn't too late, but with Rod's blessing, I have decided to see if any of you would be interested in some of my lumber as well. Without stepping on any toes here hopefully, I have some species to offer as well. I would plan on making the same stops as Rod as long as there is some interest. I need to make room in my shop, so I have to liquidate a little. The lumber I have to offer is as follows...

Brazilian Cherry - mostly 4/4 or a little thicker, 4"-12" wide, various lengths - $4.50 BF. 500 BF
Cherry with some sapwood, surfaced to 7/8", 8' lengths, 4 1/2"+ width - $3.00 BF. 500 BF
Maple - 4/4 or 5/4 in 5 foot lengths, 4"+ in width - 4/4 - $2.00 BF, 5/4 $2.50 BF. 1000 BF
Basswood and Poplar, 5 foot lengths, 4/4 - $1.50 BF. 500 BF each
White and Red Oak 4/4 and 5/4- No quartersawn, 5 foot in length, 4"+W - $2.00 BF, 5/4 $2.50. 1000 BF
Sapele - 4/4 and 8'+L ,5"+W - $5.00 BF. 1000 BF

All species are kiln dried and stored indoors.

Please let me know what you would be interested in and what quantity. I only have a 1/2 ton pickup and 8x12 trailer so I have to be fairly accurate with my load. Thanks!

Re: "Santa" Lumber Run

Happy Monday again all! We are revving up for the Santa Lumber Run this weekend and are looking forward to meeting all of you who can make it.

I spent this past weekend working and working and working on sorting, stacking........ I didn't get any sawing done but hope to get to that Thursday and Friday after I sort and stack some more.

So far I have the following wood that I have brought out of hiding...and is ready for sale...
Cherry - 5/4-8/4 - 320bf @ $2/bf
Cherry - mostly 4/4 -180bf @ $1.50/bf
Walnut - 5/4 - 8/4 with one 12/4 - 345bf @ $2/bf
Pile of Ash and other - 5/4-8/4 275 @ $2/bf or less. Pile has Ash, approx. 15bf white oak, and a few pieces of some other stuff...might be ash but I'm not sure...I'm not too familiar with it.
Cedar - 5/4-8/4 few thousand bf at $2/bf
Pen Blanks - so far just wormy chestnut @ $.50 ea.
Bowl Blanks and other turning stock- walnut, cherry, apple, hard maple (sugar), soft maple (norway), red oak, spalted beech and maybe a few others in there. $5-$10 each depending on size...probably will be closer to $5.

I did not have time to get into the persimmon, maple, etc...this weekend. I will try on Thursday and Friday.

One disclaimer - I have always been up front with folks and expect that of them. I feel it makes for good business. In light of that, please note that this wood has been air dried for a number of years. It is wood that I have been collecting for a few years now and some that I have recently acquired. All of the wood is worthy, yet some has greyed over time and doesn't look like it just came out of a kiln or has just been sawed. So I leave it to you to decide if you want it or not. If so, then great. If you get to the drop off and decide that it's not for you, then no worries. My feelings will not be hurt at all. I'm sorry to put that out there now, but I have been a little nervous about the run simply because I don't want to set false expectations. In the end, I would rather burn all of the wood than to tarnish mine or my family's reputation. This load I am selling to say thank you for all that you have done for me since I joined Woodworker and to put faces with names as stated before.

Ok, enough of that. Here's the schedule that we are planning...
Winston-Salem -- At Klingspor (532 Hanes Mall Blvd) no later than 9:00am and out no later than 10:00am
Burlington -- At truck stop (Buckhorn Rd Exit 157) no later than 11:30am and out no later than 12:15.
Raleigh -- At Harbor Freight (3302 Capital Blvd) no later than 1:30 and out sometime between 4:00pm and 5:00pm...maybe earlier depending on attendence and if I need to meet people on the way back up the mtn.

If for some reason I can't accomodate everyone, please accept my apologies. I can always bring some more down the mountain at a later time. Also, I think Brian out of Iron Station (bluthart) is going to join us that day. He will have some other species for sale I believe. Maybe he can throw in a couple hundred bf of cherry as well.

Ok, I think that's it for now. Any questions or concerns, please feel free to call 828-230-5915 or email lrb150@skybest.com. Again I appreciate all that we do for each other. I couldn't begin to tell you all that you have done for me over the past year. I look forward to seeing you soon.
