North Carolina Woodworker is aimed primarily at Woodworkers in North Carolina. We will accept automatically users from NC, VA, TN, SC.
All others registrant's accounts will be put into Moderation, once they have verified their email address. Most of these registrants will be declined by our staff. This has nothing to do with you personally.. It has to do with our desire to maintain the local nature of our discussions, functions, etc.
However, we do accept non-residents in a few special cases.
People who, in the staff's judgment, offer special skills that are not represented in depth with our current membership.
People who have a special interest in woodworking in North Carolina and/or work in the state.
People who represent manufacturers and/or retail vendors of woodworking tools.
Other exceptions may be made as deemed appropriate by the staff of www.ncwoodworker.net
However, registrants that do not meet the automatic registration requirement , MUST provide information as to why they should be considered for non resident membership. This is done by filling in the "Non Resident Join Request" field of the registration application. Remember that a non resident registration is placed into moderation. When the staff reviews these accounts, their attention is placed on the "Non Resident Join Request" field. If it is NOT filled in, the registration will automatically be declined.

Ok guys and gals. You've seen Dave's post on his progress of his occasional chair, now it is time to sign up and build your own.
Class Dates: January 6th-7th with a bonus shaping day on Jan. 20th
Class Duration: 8-6pm both days
Class Size: 4 people
Class Cost: $230 for NCwwers only (Materials not Provided)
Experience level Required: None, I can teach anyone to make one of these chairs. All the skills that are required are taught to you. Prior woodworking experience doesn't help much because this is such a different way of woodworking. This is a great intro before you make a rocker for those rocker wanta bees out there. Bring your imagination.
Wood Required: 30 bdft of 8/4 wood (walnut, mahogany are recommended)
Class Content: I will teach you first how to design a chair based on your own body measurement. Then we will go Maloofing around. You'll learn the super strong Maloof leg to seat joint that is the secret to the strength of these chairs. You'll learn to freehand bandsaw out excess material from the seat. I'll teach you to use the bandsaw in a way you never thought possible. By the end of Sunday you'll have a chair you can sit in. When you come back for the bonus shape day I'll show you how to finish carving out the seat and basic shaping priciples that make these chairs what they are. After the class you'll have about 30 hrs of work to finish off your chair. It is an experience that will grow your woodworking skills guaranteed!!!! You'll even get to see me working a settee (2 person version) of this chair right along with you.
