Guys do we have coverage for this event. We need to get a sign made up for Klingspor's. They want to help promote the event.

Monty and I are supplying MIDI lathes. I think Monty will be turning for some time. Who else is turning? What else needs to be brought? I have a few kits, but not too many. Who is bringing blanks? Will they be predrilled and tubed? These are the things we need to know. I'm starting the discussion.

Are we going to have more lathes for the event? Folks will be able to stop by and having a lathe that a nonmember can hop on and turn a pen for a troop would be a good way for them to get acquanted with us.

Lets firm things up for this part of the gathering.

Thanks,

John

I'll be there, and will give it a turn. I don't know if it will end up as a pen, but with y'alls expert guidance it just might

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

Re: Extravaganza- Support our Troops Pen Turning Event

OK... we're down to crunch time! Let's see, where do we stand....

1. Lathes - we'll have two midi lathes (Woodguy's and mine)

2. Turning tools - I know I'm bringing some, and Clay said he would. I'll have just a roughing gouge and maybe skew. Anyone else is welcome to bring theirs.

3. Grinder - I have an 8" grinder with a Wolverine jig I can bring.

4. Mandrels - we'll have one for each lathe (Woodguy's and mine). I better check to make sure my bushings are the right size!

5. Kits - I have seen a few people in this thread mention that they had kits they could bring. I will supply probably about 40 of these - will that be too much? Not enough? Regardless, please bring some slimline kits if you have them -- the more the merrier!!!

6. Blanks - I don't have a drill press (yet ), and we won't have one at the show, so we need pre-drilled blanks which already have the tubes glued in them and trimmed to length ready to turn. Clay said he would provide 20 of these. Nick (NZAPP1) mentioned he had 10-20 he could bring. Jeff said he had some blanks to donate, but someone needs to glue & trim them for the show. Anyone else (whether you're turning or not) please bring some blanks to the show!!!

7. Sandpaper - Clay and Nick have said they will bring multiple grits and micromesh.

8. Finish - Clay and Nick said they will bring supplies for 3 step and CA finish.

9. Signs - done.

10. Pen assembly tool - Clay is bringing his.

So, the way I see it, what we need most are pen kits and prepared blanks. So, anyone coming to the show - please bring some kits and blanks if you can!!! We need plenty of raw materials to work with, to create a nice "sweat shop" atmosphere!

Are we missing anything else???

I won't be at the show there, so if ya'll still need some blanks, I'll need to know where to send em to be prep'ed.

Thanks

If I don't have to work Saturday will there be room for 1 more turner? I can bring my lathe and my own tools and supplies.

Re: Extravaganza- Support our Troops Pen Turning Event

I'll bring my own turning tools and blanks if I have any drilled. I'm in kind of a time crunch right now to drill any more. BTW, I drill mine on my lathe instead of a drill press.

Re: Extravaganza- Support our Troops Pen Turning Event

This is looking like most of the room will be taken up by lathes and pen turning stuff. Is it still worth bringing any furniture? I had thought of putting the inlaid coffee table in the car. It could be used to display some of the other smaller items.

Re: Extravaganza- Support our Troops Pen Turning Event

There should be plenty of room - bring your stuff! Based on what Coleman at Klingspor told me, they will be renting twice as much space as they were going to for their luncheon (apparently it's going to be a BIG luncheon on Friday). So we'll have twice as much space in our room. Based on the building layout, it looks like the room will likely be about 44' x 70' (rooms G & H).

Re: Extravaganza- Support our Troops Pen Turning Event

Sounds good. I'll bring the table. Some of the smaller things from other members will look nice on it I think.

Re: Extravaganza- Support our Troops Pen Turning Event

I have cut, drilled, and tubed 21 sets of blanks for the show today. I will trim them up tomorrow and bring to the show. The LOML will kill me tonight I used all of her nail polish remover to get the flex CA off my fingers

Re: Extravaganza- Support our Troops Pen Turning Event

Cool!!! It looks like we'll have enough supplies for at least 40 pens then....

Can we realistically expect to do any more than that in one day? If so, then we need more stuff!!!
